Addiction kept me from living a happy life until I found help through 12 step treatment. My life was changed one night when I overdosed and woke up in the hospital. The doctor told me if I used again I would probably die because my heart couldn't take it any more. I was scared at that point that I might die because I knew I couldn't stop on my own so I told my parents that I had a addiction and that I needed help to go into 12 step treatment. They were surprised that their little girl could even have done such a thing but, they helped me and paid for treatment. It's been 3 years since I went through treatment and I'm happier than ever!

Why is chemical dependence so hard to deal with? Why does the addict lose all respect for others? Why does the drug mean more to a person than anything else? Substatnce dependency seems to run in my family. I am the only child out of 7 brothers and sisters who has not fallen prey to substatnce dependency. I don't want to seem greedy but, I just want to get them some help.
